Stalk's Soapbox: Bill Maher, may I invite you to sit down and STFU?

Today marks a week since legendary Marvel Comics publisher and pitchman, Stan Lee had made his unfortunate transition.

While millions of sympathies, eulogies and condolences to Lee's passing, flooded in, there was one individual who happened to take a piss in the punchbowl during the repast.

Talk show host, political commentator and "comedian", Bill Maher had took it upon himself to trash Lee's legacy via an insensitive blog which deflected Stan's accomplishments to Pop Culture and if that wasn’t enough, Maher ridiculed adults, both young and old for reading Comicbooks and of course praising Stan Lee.

Well, although in a free society where America supports the first amendment, you have people who would often make dumb, racist and inflammatory comments. Bill Maher serves as a prime example of all three. Here's but a sample of his comments that resulted in a "YUGE" backlash!

“The guy who created Spider-Man and the Hulk has died, and America is in mourning. Deep, deep mourning for a man who inspired millions to, I don’t know, watch a movie, I guess.”
“Now, I have nothing against comic books — I read them now and then when I was a kid and I was all out of Hardy Boys. But the assumption everyone had back then, both the adults and the kids, was that comics were for kids, and when you grew up you moved on to big-boy books without the pictures.”

While I do have a few misgivings about how Lee handled the Jack Kirby situation as in Kirby not receiving both credit and momentary compensation for his many contributions to Marvel, but w Jack was too humble to go out within the mainstream to promote his amazing work. It was Stan who stepped into the forefront and helped to "make ours Marvel"!

Lee and Kirby's legacy has enriched the lives of so many and Stan balked at the notion of Comicbooks being only for prepubescent Kids. Instead, he utilized Marvel to tackle socially conscience topics like drug abuse and racism, which sadly is more prevalent now than ever!

Those minor examples were proof that this 4 color literature can and has broaden its reader audience and had it not been for reading comics as a kid, my vocabulary and reading comprehension may not have advanced this rapidly. I was known as one of the smartest kids of the class since 2nd grade and sometime afterwards, college. This was partially thanks to reading Marvel Comics!

Comics also inspired me to express my artistic talents and in high school, I was like a celebrity to the extent of getting noticed by the opposite sex, especially since many had compared my art to Kirby's who of course, was my sole inspiration for being this "artist".

You can't fault Donald Trump's electoral victory to people who read comics, no instead its people who are stupid enough to buy into his rhetoric. I don't see you attacking over fifty percent of White Women who voted for Trump in 2016, so why scapegoat Comicbook nerds because you're so being an elitist prick?

Comics changed my life in many ways and also kept me out of trouble as in hanging with the wrong crowd.

Bill Maher could never accomplish a feat as great as Stan and whenever you use your show as a platform to demonize those who take well deserved time off for escapism, that makes you really pathetic and, in some ways,, its fascism to tell someone what to think or how to feel since they don’t beat to your drum.

Life is hard especially in these times of uncertainty so why not indulge in what makes you happy if it doesn’t hurt you or anyone else?

Maher, you really are a shallow sophomoric hypocrite I mean, if you're so down on comics and comicbook based films, why did to appear in a cameo role for Iron Man 3? You were quick to take that paycheck, right?

So, in closing, as the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, yes, I am thankful to Stanley Martin Lieber for making a difference for so many lives, including my own. As for you, Mr. Maher, over your extended break from Real Time, I suggest you sit down, reflect and most importantly SHUT THE FUCK UP!

Excelsior!
