Image
Welcome to Respecting The Classics, where we hold a roundtable review and discussion of forgotten films and hidden gems. In this segment, Bop, Jen and Stalkeye paid respect to Rush Hour 2 and as a bonus, Stan Lee remembered! You don't want to miss out on this unapologetic Podcast!

Stalk's Soapbox: Bill Maher, may I invite you to sit down and STFU?

Image
Today marks a week since legendary Marvel Comics publisher and pitchman, Stan Lee had made his unfortunate transition. While millions of sympathies, eulogies and condolences to Lee's passing, flooded in, there was one individual who happened to take a piss in the punchbowl during the repast. Talk show host, political commentator and "comedian", Bill Maher had took it upon himself to trash Lee's legacy via an insensitive blog which deflected Stan's accomplishments to Pop Culture and if that wasn’t enough, Maher ridiculed adults, both young and old for reading Comicbooks and of course praising Stan Lee. Well, although in a free society where America supports the first amendment, you have people who would often make dumb, racist and inflammatory comments. Bill Maher serves as a prime example of all three. Here's but a sample of his comments that resulted in a "YUGE" backlash! “The guy who created Spider-Man and th

Welcome to  another segment of Now Playing were I cover recent movies and television series that are now available via home streaming services like Netflix, Amazon or Video on Demand. The Equalizer 2 (Video on Demand) Denzel is back as Robert McCall a good Samaritan to many, but a badass vigilante to those less than fortunate. After learning of a close friend's murder, Rob goes on a private war to track down the assailants responsible for the brutal murder. Although the sequel is not as good as the first, there is some fun to be had in Equalizer 2. While the outcome of the story as in a whodunit, is predictable, the subplots like McCall steering one of his neighbors on the right path and the random acts of kindness scenes add a bit of depth to the narrative.  It’s good to watch at least once and then carry on to other things. Better than: Atomic Blonde Not as good as: The Equilizer John Wick John Wick 2 Black KKKlansman

AMC's Robert Kirkman's Secret History of Comics: The Misfits of Marvel

Image
Originally published in November 2017 So after watching yet another disappointing episode of AMC's The Walking Dead, I discovered that the network has another new series that involves the creator of the Walking Dead; Robert Kirkman. Secret History of Comics, which debuted its first episode last night, is a behind the scenes retrospective of  events which "supposedly" occurred within the Comicbook industry and its first topic is  a great one right off the bat! This series features interviews from various celebrities within the comicbook field as well as actors and historians combined with archival footage and most amusing is how the reenactments are told- courtesy of animation sequences. And of note, I can’t neglect to mention how the aesthetics and tone is reminiscent of the HULU documentary-Batman and Bill. I’m certain that Batman and Bill was the inspiration behind the animation sequences and perhaps the AMC series as well. The Misfits of Marvel c

Stan Lee 1922-2018

I wouldn't even know how to begin this obit after learning of Marvel Comics' legendary publisher Stan Lee's passing, other than saying how influential he was when it came to some of his ideas, contributions and savvy marketing. Stanley Martin Lieber started out as a gofer at Timely Comics which would eventually become Marvel. His first crack at writing was ironically, for a Captain America issue and afterwards Comics were heavily looked down upon especially after a scathing article called The Seduction of the Innocent which held Superhero, horror and mystery comicbooks to a low standard. It was during a faithful golf outing between Marvel's President  Martin Goodman and the then President of DC Comics, that gave birth to Marvel's iconic characters. You see, after Jules Schwartz had boasted about DC's ensemble superhero team Justice League,Goodman wanted something equivalent to DC's ensemble team. Soon afterwards, Lee along wit

The Weakest Link in a "Chain of Fools"!

In the Shits n "Giggles"column, over the weekend I received an earful of complaints toward a certain Moderator who is still up to his old tracks. Therefore, I  thought it was time for a special op ed that to many is long overdue. Let's get to it! Dis-claimer: The opinions of this author expressed therein for the most part reflect Poptic Nerve and many, many others except the blind fools who still cape for you. At the time of this writing, it’s been exactly a year when Aint it Cool News founder Harry Knowles was forced to step down amid allegations of sexual misconduct  but not until after the mass exodus not only by the most dedicated of talkbackers but nearly the entire staff, with the exception of one-the hypocritical narcissist  feckless twat, James  Michael Kozak aka "Hercules" who stayed behind. And while the torch of site ownership has been passed, it’s still within the family, literally as in Dannie Knowles, Harry's dear sist

Now Playing: Ant-Man & The Wasp, DC's Titans and Daredevil Season Three

Welcome to now playing, where I review the recent films and TV shows now available via home streaming. (Netflix, Amazon, etc.) This segment is dedicated to a few Superhero based programs now available for your viewing pleasure! Ant-Man and the Wasp This anticipated sequel reunites actor Paul Rudd with the original cast from the first film with even more comedic bits and action. The titular character(s) face a new menace with the power to walk through walls...like her namesake; Ghost and is that a good thing? Well, yes and no. While the action sequences especially from Wasp, delivers, the comedy felt forced as if Director Peyton was desperately trying to recapture that lightning in a bottle. Sadly, it only worked once and that was the previous film. While Ghost being yet another villain to find empathy for, is now a tiring trope the idea of Hank Pym's "lab" being used as some McGuffin ala hot potato, is a result of one too many writer
