Image
Sky: Hullo everyone, it’s time for another Sky and Ollie special celebrating Black History Month for the year 2019! Ollie: I had no idea we already done a BHM segment. OH, wait it’s all coming back to me..Pulp Epic, which was supposed to be the successor to Talkbacker.  Sky: Exactly Ols, that's where we had our special cohost, Cat Hitler and after he dropped so many N-bombs, you showed him the door...actually, you showed him right through the door! Good times, mate.  Ollie: Wonder whatever happened to that douchebag? Sky: Like a small bunch of White Supremacist losers from TB & SN, he voted for Trump! Ollie: And how's that working out for them?  Well, Hilary Clinton is the same side of the coin, so either way, we're fucked. Ah, anyways, let's get to it! Sky: Ah, yes indeed! So, February is an important month for various reasons, The Superbowl, The Oscars, Valentine's Day for those who are sappy and buy into the commerciali

The Bop Drop: Bop giving props to Legendary Black Entertainers!

Since I live from day to day, days are busy days and often I don’t even know what date it is or care about the date. I did find out it was Black History Month thanks to Stalks’ article .  So here are my 2 cents. Looking up important black people in history Martin Luther King, Ruby Bridges, Mohammed Ali and Jimi Hendrix come to mind. All the people who call Europeans Eurotrash are AmericUnts to me. Yes, you read it right! Why, because AmericUnts like to point fingers at Europeans while they killed off Martin Luther King. They protested big time when Ruby Bridges wanted to join a white school. They punished Muhammad Ali, because he didn’t want to go to Vietnam. And how about equal rights for black people. Why did they get that only in the 60s and not decades before?  And yes, Holland has black Pete and white master Santa and that is very wrong, but at least black people over here aren’t thrown in jail for smoking a joint or shot under the false pretense of being threat

Overrated or Underrated: Spider-Man into the Spider-Verse

Image
Nominated for best Animated Film for tonight's Academy Awards, Sony's Spider-Man (God, I hate hyphens!) Into the Spiderverse has garnered so much praise and acclaim since its premiere last December. But now that I have finally got a chance to see what all the fuss is about, let's find out if Spideyverse is overrated or well worth all those glowing reviews! Into the Spiderverse centers around Miles Morales, a Black Hispanic teenager who was bitten by a radioactive spider, resulting in not only acquiring Spider-esque abilities, but can fire electrical blasts and turn invisible. While Miles is a fan of the OG Spiderman, his father, an NYPD or PDNY" Police officer, sees him as nothing more than a costume vigilante menace. In a twist of fate, Miles, bears witness to Spiderman's attempts to stop Wilson Fisk from opening parallel universes via a super collider in order to reestablish contact with his Wife and Son who were killed in an accident many

Pilot Light: Umbrella Academy and Doom Patrol pilot episodes reviewed!

Image
Welcome to a new segment called Pilot Light, where I review and rate the debut of a series' first episode and predict how it may fare overall.  To get things started, we have not one, but two brand new Superhero ensemble shows, that premiered during the weekend of February 15th Umbrella Academy and DC's Doom Patrol ! Although both series are unrelated, there is that commonality that sorta binds one another especially when compared to the X-Men films. So, let's see whether or not these two shows are "super" or not. Umbrella Academy  Based on a comic series from publisher, Dark Horse, Umbrella Academy entails seven children, who were miraculously birthed without any explanation, yet acquired superhuman powers and under the tutelage of their adopted "Father" Sir Reginald Hargreeves. the seven, use their powers for goodwill and to prevent a plan to send humanity back to the "Stone age"! The first episode titled &qu

Originally published from the now defunct site, Pulp Epic during its 30th Anniversary (February 2014) and now unearthed, rewritten and edited from the ground up and just in time for its 35th anniversary, let's take another RETROspective into Marvel Comics' G.i.joe A Real American Hero Issue #24 titled, The Commander Escapes! "Is there a prison big enough, strong enough to hold" the most ruthless terrorist determined to rule the world? Well according to Joe scribe, Larry Hama and special guest illustrator Russ Heath, let's find out! After the events from Issue #23, The Cobra Commander has been detained by the Joes within the plateau of the Rocky Mountains. The Commander, in full bravado disregards how long Duke and the Joes can contain him without any supplies or shelter until he notices the arrival of a C-130 cargo plane, unloading   large crates and while some are marked as parts for a pre-fabricated fortress, the other crate remains a my

Blacula (1973) Retro Review

Image
Since today marks Valentine's Day and we're still celebrating Black History Month, what would be better than to post a Movie review that was not only one of the forebears of Black Horror Cinema, but also a Love Story?!? I curse thee with thy name; Blacula! Synopsis African Prince Mamuwalde along with his wife Luva was dispatched to Transylvania as ambassadors of the Ubani tribe for the sole purpose of having Dracula put an end to the barbaric slave trade. unfortunately for them, the count himself refused to play ball as demonstrated in his nonchalant manner, believes it has "merit”! Too add insult to injury, he makes a very condescending remark to the African Princess. Mamu (For short) abruptly ends the meeting as he finds Dracula's manners as distasteful as his cognac.  Dracula refuses to allow them to leave and immediately dispatches his henchmen. Despite fighting the good fight, Mamu is knocked unconscious and suddenly cursed with Dracula'
