Defining "Wokeness"

Image
“I don’t like bullies; I don’t care where they’re from.” -Captain America The First Avenger So, here we are approaching Memorial Day where thousands upon thousands of American soldiers from various races and cultures have paid the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms and the luxury to have "Barbecues and Summer getaways" instead of taking time to honor the dead, but hey, " That's America!"😉 Also as of note, this day marks the 100th anniversary one of the many brutal atrocities committed upon a group of innocent civilians, primarily Black People. In Tulsa Oklahoma, there was a thriving community of well to do citizens who flourished despite the harsh racism they were faced, with. It was labeled "Black Wall Street " because of its lucrative economic businesses via self-starters who were black. And to think how it took an HBO series, to make most aware of the Tulsa massacre when people like us, knew about these horrific events decades ago! But as wi

The Eternals: Teaser Trailer

Image
As part of Phase Four, Marvel Studios has released a trailer for The Eternals movie slated for release this November .Created by Jack "King" Kirby and Directed by Chloe Zhao (Nomadland) the Eternals is about an immortal race of Humanoids who are defenders of the Earth against the evil Deviants. The film stars Angelina Jolie and Richard Madden and Genma Chan.Say, wasn't she in Captain Marvel? This adaptation bears a more Western aesthetic instead of Kirby's grandiose cosmic theme which was the version I would prefer for an live action adaptation but I digress. Clever use of "End of the World" since that song was played during Girl Interrupted which also starred Jolie.

Reel Talk Podcast: Second Time Around Pt.2

Image
The Boys are back in town with pt.2 of our Reel Talk segment where we call out  "liberal" Hollywood for their hypocrisy. Has Cancel Culture gone too far? We go “HAM” on a few cheesy films. The illustrious career of Michael Clarke Duncan, dissecting Alien and Alien 3 and in continuation of the “Second Time” topic, we list films we once loathed, but now revere!

Army of the Dead Review. "Viva, Las Plagues"

Image
So, after the success from the recently release of Zac Snyder's Justice League on HBO, we are now treated, and I use that word sparingly, to another long-awaited project from one of the most polarizing Directors of our time!In the spiritual successor to Snyder's breakout  Dawn of the Dead  remake,  Army of the Dead  is an amalgamation of a heist film but with Survival Horror as in Zombies! Dave Bautista of  Guardians of the Galaxy  fame stars as former mercenary Scott Ward, who has an estranged relationship with his daughter. While working as a fry cook, barely getting by, he receives a proposition from a wealthy Casino owner Tanaka, who informs him of a vault within a  building full of cold hard cash, but there is one caveat, its surrounded by hordes of the living dead. And that's the summary of the film's plot device, folks! Goodnight! Anyways, Army starts off with a fun prologue where this couple in Las Vegas collides into a military convoy containing dangerous cargo

After Four Years, was I wrong about Resident Evil 7?

Image
It is of no secret that i have been a fan of the Resident Evil game franchise since its debut on the PlayStation circa 1996. What coined the Subgenre "Survival Horror" Resident Evil's popularity has branched out beyond the games and into other mediums such as Comics, Toys and Movies. While the series have reached its high marks, like Resident Evil 4, there were some low points, and I am looking at you Resident Evil 6 and Paul WS Anderson! So, around four years ago, January 2017 to be exact, Resident Evil Biohazard, the 7th installment of the game's canonical timeline, made its grand entrance however, after the disappointing RE6 and a shift from 3rd person perspective to first person, I as a longtime fan, was put off by this. Yes, I purchased the game when it later went on sale within the same year and stopped playing after 90 minutes.  Why? First, where are the RE mainstays like Leon Kennedy, Jill Valentine, Barry Burton, Claire, and Chris Redfield? Instead, we get th

Oh, Joe! Snake Eyes' Movie Trailer has finally arrived!

Image
Ok, its what many of you have all been waiting for after all the anticipation and curiosity, especially for you Joe fans out there *ahem* the Snake Eyes G.I. Joe Origins trailer has finally dropped/ It is more of a teaser but there’s enough details that may help to explain the film’s narrative. Despite my skepticism regarding the non-canonical casting decision, I have come to terms of it being more like some reimagining of the iconic silent Ninja Commando. You will have to judge for yourself.   Created by Comic scribe Larry Hama for the 1982 G.I. Joe A Real American Hero Toyline, Snake Eyes is a infiltration specialist for the Joe team who was trained by the Arishikage Ninja clan along with his best friend turned enemy Tommy Arishikage aka Storm Shadow. The titular character is known for having a romantic relationship with fellow team member Scarlett/Shana O’ Hara who is briefly seen in a “blink and you’ll miss it” segment. Snake Eyes is Paramount's 3rd attempt at making a fi

Captain America: Civil War (Five Years Later!)

Image
Wow! It has been five years already since the release of Captain America Civil War made its debut in theaters and with it, polarizing receptions from the highly acclaimed to very disappointing depending on who you talk to. Out of all the MCU films, the Captain America trilogy were the most well received even beating out The Avengers-and this is good because I’ve been a fan of the iconic Superhero ever since I could read comics! Now, if anyone would ask: “Hey Stalks, out of all the Superheroes from Marvel, why Captain America?” And in turn, I would easily respond with this;  •He is an accomplished martial artist, acrobat, and a brilliant tactician who despite not acquiring special powers like his teammates, Cap is more than capable of holding his own even against hopeless situations. Not to mention, that he is worthy of welding Thor’s hammer Mjolnir! •The very first comic character with an African-American partner who is not some “sidekick”.  •Cap is the pinnacle of perfection regarding

Phasing the Forth!

Image
So out of nowhere, a trailer for the upcoming "scheduled " films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase Four has been dropped! And of course, I am sure most of you reading this, have already seen the trailer which begins with a narration of Stan Lee, Co-founder of Marvel Comics talking about the importance of family as in, his co creations, accompanied by a few past MCU movies and quips in the forefront.  It is both sentimental and a bit cliché.  Afterwards, this is where the lineups are introduced with a few  brief scenes from upcoming films, Black Widow, Shang Chi and The Eternals respectively. So, here’s the deets! Black Widow – July 9, 2021: Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings – July 9, 2021. Eternals – November 5, 2021. Spider-Man: No Way Home – December 17, 2021. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – March 25, 2022. Thor: Love and Thunder – May 6, 2022. Followed by an old quote that is or isn't a nod to the late Roger Ebert: "See you at the movi
