Ollie's Most Annoying TV Ads of 2020!

Image
Oh, noes! We're not done with 2020 yet! If there is one certainty aside from Death and Taxes, is Commercials! As soon as you point the clicker to watch your favorite series, news broadcasts, or even YouTube clips, you're bombarded by ads. Commercials are a network's bread and butter when profiting from companies marketing their products and services, and while some are whimsical, clever and creative,  there are many that are far from being worthy of a Cleo award! Here's the most annoying commercials of 2020, one of the worst years on record. So how fitting are these mentions? Aimovig: I am here this commercial that advertises a prescription drug for severe migraines, is shot in some Soap Opera fashion as our ensemble cast of bad actors face trials and tribulations accompanied by lame narration; " For the mundane,  the awe inspiring, for the heart racing, the heartbreaking.." where some douchebag who apparently cheated on his wife, is trying to work it out, whi

Batman: Soul of the Dragon Review (Everybody wants Kung Fu fighting!)

Image
Its another year, and guess what that means? Its time for another animated Batman featurette! However, it's a much different spin on DC's most beloved brooding hero because Batman Soul of the Dragon is a love letter to 70s pop culture as Kung Fu ,Blaxploitation flicks but unfortunately not enough Grindhouse. The plot involves  Batman reuniting with his former classmates under the tutelage of the missing  O-sensei to prevent a mythical sword called the Soul Breaker, from opening the Gates of Hell! Okay, not really hell in the "biblical sense" but a gateway to some demonic realm called Naga. The prologue begins with a Retconned Richard Dragon, who bears a striking resemblance to legendary Martial Artist and Philosopher Bruce Lee as some James Bond esque spy, even the intro pays a clever homage to the 007 franchise. Richard's design was obviously intentional since WB owns the rights to Enter the Dragon, besides, who would be a better fit for this progressive version

Embolden Years: How David Bowie paid it forward by calling out MTV!

Image
“Hey la-la...look above..”  Today, January 10th, marks the unfortunate passing of a legendary songwriter, recording artist, actor and another pioneer within the music industry-David Bowie.    While most regard Mr. Bowie's works as influential and highly innovative due to avant-garde aesthetics/ concepts, androgynous motifs and out of this world songs when the era of the early 70s were a bit puritanical, there are quite a few who weren't aware of how he forever changed the landscape of the Music scene.    During the successful launch and reception of Music Television mostly referred to as MTV, during the early 80’s, during an interview with MTV anchor Mark Goodman in 1983, Bowie criticized the channel for not providing enough coverage of black musicians, Mark couldn't really come up with a satisfactory response to Bowie's query as he looked very uncomfortable and was brazen enough to call a channel, that for the most part, gave patronage to the Mid-Western White demograp

Coup d' etard:The Insurrection of Evil!

So, for all you out there, who didn't see this shit coming? After the capitol officially nominated President Elect Joe Biden, a bunch of psychotic thugs from Quanon, The Loud Boys, and other nutjob White Supremacists factions stormed the nation's Capital building like a scene out of a dystopian movie or one of those Gerard Butler action films, you know the ones where he’s playing “Jack Bauer” while protecting President Morgan Freeman? Or how about that episode from G.I.Joe “ Arise, Serpentor, Arise” where Cobra under the command of the maniacal Serpentor led an assault on the US Capitol? Anyhow, these trailer apes not only flooded the building but occupied the offices of Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi and killed a Police Officer!    All this were spurred on by the Terrorist in Chief, Donald Trump and his stupid sore loser lackeys and social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook and Parler. Blood is on Trump’s hands and most importantly, it's on the hands of those who

Heavy Metal (1981) A Pulp Epic!

Image
It's been over a month since the passing of legendary writer and artist Richard Corben who was a major force to be reckoned with in regards to Science Fiction and Horror art. Aside from Creepy and Eerie magazines, one of Corben's greatest accomplishments was Heavy Metal, a groundbreaking if not underground magazine of dark fantasy, science fiction pulp and eroticism. The magazine gained enough notoriety to have its premise told in a breathtaking animated adaptation released during the late Summer of 1981. Produced by Ivan Reitman, and based on original stories by Corben, Bernie Wrightson and Dan o' Bannon, this titular Sci Fi fantasy anthology,  a mysterious green orb, known as the Loc-Nar, has been discovered on an off world mining planet. It soon falls within Astronaut Grimaldi's  possession during the intro theme by Riggs, "Radar Rider" as he arrives toward earth with this "present" for his young daughter and it's a quite surprise, alright! As
