The Merry Marvel Review Roundup!

Image
Marvel Studios has had a decent year despite setbacks from Covid 19 to the infamous lawsuit filed by Scarlett Johansson. Subscribers of the Disney Plus service has finally got their monies worth as the streaming giant dropped one series after another so what's left after Black Widow made its "three-point landing " or Loki, Wandavision, Falcon and the Winter Soldier came and went? Enough to do a review wrap up of course. Here's what's left of the latest Marvel projects. Note: I will not be covering the Eternals as I have yet to watch the movie, and Hit Monkey didn't garner my attention nor anyone else's for that matter since no one mentioned it. First off, let’s talk about the long-awaited Shang Chi and The Ten Rings. This adaptation of Marvel's first Asian Superhero begins with promising prologue that details the origins of the ten rings and afterwards, we are introduced to Shaun and Katy, who are parking Valets in where else? San Francisco! Shaun gets

Remember, remember that Year in November (1991)

Image
Ah, remember back during the year of 1991 when things were fun, simple, and far less complicated that today's total outlook? There was less racial strife compared to today, well, aside from the Rodney King beating and Bush senior's "War on Drugs". No agitators like FOX News doing shit stirring, no Twitter Wars, Toxic forums filled with basement dwelling trolls, or frivolous Cancel Cultured Pseudo Justice Warriors who call out the "misdeeds " of others as a means of some self-congratulatory blowjob! No one stirring at their portable devices, and you can call your friends and relatives via phone, then "Texting"! There were only two genders, there wasn’t any narcissistic attention whores all over Two-facedbook, Instaspam, or Tik-Tak and when you met a woman for a date, it didn’t depend on being “swiped to the right” or whatever. Operation Desert Storm was over in a matter of months compared to the 20-year clusterfuck in Iraq and Afghanistan, there was

XBox@20!

After the unfortunate demise of SEGA's Dreamcast which forced the iconic Game Developer to exit the hardware business, Sony's PlayStation 2 had gained more of a competitive edge against Nintendo. (Prior to the launch of GameCube) The latest Console Wars is about to get more interesting as the latest contender from the United States, enters the arena in a market that was previously dominated by Japan! " One must stand, two must fall?" Using components from PC architecture, the engineers at Microsoft, had constructed a gaming console that would also function as a multimedia device capable of playing DVD Movies and music CDs. The Xbox made its debut in November 15. 2001 just in time for the Holiday season preceding Nintendo's GameCube by three days and the hype was somewhat justified as this big black box had potential for greatness and not a one and done console like the Atari Jaguar. Specs: Custom 733 MHz Intel Pentium III "Coppermine-based" processor Mem

Eterno! Why I cannot cosign on Marvel Studios' Eternals

Image
While it’s no secret that while I am a huge Jack Kirby fan, who collected the comics this film is loosely (with the emphasis leaning heavily on "loosely"!) based on, I cannot endorse this Cinematic adaptation especially during its opening day which is tomorrow. Y'see, Kirby when had this vision of an ensemble team if Supergods, it had meaning in a high conceptual context although inspired by Chariots of the Gods and self-referenced from his previous work from New Gods, the Eternals took on an original premise of its own when you include three species and the arrival of Space Gods, that were very tantamount to the Comics. Kirby's Eternals had a limited run during the mid-seventies however, what was presented was grandiose epic in scale but far from pretension as the reader can ascertain what Kirby tried to establish. Sure, it was filled with comic clichés and b movie dialogue but the overall execution of this Science Fiction and God mythology mash-up with an intriguin

INJUSTICE (Review)

Image
What happens when Superheroes who are lionized as all around infallible do-gooders, flip the script by going rogue? All because of "one bad day"? Well, DC's INJUSTICE animated feature answers the question with their take on the hugely popular Netherworld Superhero fighting game! Set in an alternate reality, (i mean where else can you take extreme liberties when demoralizing a well-established pop culture icon?) The Joker plays the worst practical joke on the Man of Steel which in turn serves as the catalyst for our "big blue boyscout" going on some super "jihad"  along with Wonder Woman to establish some initiative to put an end to crime, war and terrorism on a global scale while several members within the Justice League questions his extreme motives, that can, and will lead to a totalitarian regime! Those familiar with the comics and especially the videogames know how this plays out however, the animated feature took certain liberties when changing a

Closing Arguments

"In our country, you can shoot and kill a n-gga but you better not hurt a gay person’s feelings."  Comedian Dave Chappelle stirred up controversy once again thanks to his latest Netflix special The Closer which he made jokes presumed at the "expense" of the LGBTQ community, primarily Transgenders. Of course, a swift backlash from the likes of GLAAD along other LGBTQ organizations and "Pop Culture " Websites occurred as soon as the special had aired on the streaming giant however, these protests have been countered by Chappelle's supporters who have legitimate claim that Chappelle's humor is not as "Transphobic " or encourage those to commit violent acts against Transgenders and the LGBTQ community.  Those who were quick to call for Dave's cancelation, has either, 1.Not watched the Closer special. 2. Are too ignorant to understand how Dave often talked about his friend a White Transgender Comedienne, who killed herself after her own co

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City Trailer

Image
After nearly 20 Years, a far more canonical albeit superior adaptation of Capcom’s Survival Horror series is finally here! This trailer as many of you have already seen, gives you the general idea of how the studios throw in fan service footage that is rife with Easter eggs!  Here are two trailers, although both are virtually the same, the music may or may not be to your liking.  So,I have taken the liberties of omitting that annoying song from the 4 Non-Blondes and replaced it with the J-Rock theme of the OG Resident Evil intro.

The Weekly Wrap: "Whatchoo been Watching?"

Image
So, with some time on my hands, I watched a few films and specials, you know how that saying goes: "So many stream channels, so little time?" Anyways, here's a selected lot of hits and misses, I laid my eyes upon. Marvel's Season Finale of "What If..? " What I liked about "What If ..?” Episode 9 was how all the events from the previous episodes have culminated the protagonists into some Dirty Dozen mission with Uatu recruiting his band of "Avengers" to stop Infinity Ultron before he destroys the Multiverse.  This all-star finale pays homage to several MCU films via Easter Eggs and callbacks but despite episode 9's potential, the dialog is bogged down by silly banter that is too Disneyesque for my tastes. I guess writer AC Bradley was trying to make up for the previous nihilistic episodes albeit a weak attempt. However, the is one shining spot during the mid-credits so there's that. Dave Chappelle's The Closer Dave is back for anoth
