Baby Reindeer Review: The Perils of Stalking (and Grooming!)

Image
Prepare for some Spoilers , matey! Now here's a story about two losers one, an aspiring comedian who does a day shift at some local pub, the other, Martha Scott, a delusional morbid obese woman who Donny feels sympathetic to give her a cup of tea on the house and one would think it ends there, right?? Not before Martha becomes highly infatuated with Donny to the point of stalking and harassment in this Netflix dramedy limited series based on a true story?? After bartender slash aspiring comedian Donny Dunn (played by series creator Richard Gadd, that's based on his real-life experiences) Martha Scott holds lengthy conversations with Donny, every day, then works her way through boundaries to the extent of making unwelcome advances even offering to take it up the bum as the English calls it. There’s that hilarious scene where the scorned Martha harasses Dunn, by calling him a “Bumhole pervert.”    When constantly faced with rejection, Martha dials it up 100 by showing up at his g

Escape from New York Remake is (Once Again) Shelved!

Looks like another bullet has been dodged! " In a world where major motion picture studios solely rely on remakes and Reboots to lure nostalgists to the theaters, there are a handful that escaped from the reboot treatment. Directors Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin of Radio Silence, were previously attached to what would've been a part reboot/part sequel for around a year-and-a-half ago. The pair cite the limited timelines and rights issues to move forward on the reboot project, along with scheduling conflicts that saw the timeframe close for potentially working on the revival. Now, out promoting the digital release of “Abigail,” Gillet and Olpin told ComicBook.com that they are officially out of the running as far as this project is concerned. “We are not [attached], unfortunately. I think titles like that bounce around for a while and I think they’ve tried to get that out of the blocks a few times. I think it’s just ultimately a tricky rights issue thing. There’s a c

The Crow @ 30 Review: A Melancholy Masterpiece!

30 Years later and 1994's The Crow is still one of the best comic book movies as well as influential films of all time. What began as an indie comic born out of unfortunate circumstances, led to even more tragedy when rising actor Brandon Lee was fatally struck by what was supposed to be dummy rounds, became an instant cult classic thus cementing Lee's unbridled performance as his swan song. Now stop me if you haven't heard this one before, a rock star (Eric Draven) and his finance are brutally murdered by a group of thugs.  One year later, a supernatural black bird flies to his tombstone and awakens Draven from his eternal slumber for a opportunity to avenge his fiancée thus making him a "killer of Killers!" Draven is gifted with superhuman abilities i.e. able to leap over not so tall tenement buildings in a single bound, a psychic link with the supernatural raven when tracking down his Killers, as well as  the power to heal, without the need of some "shithe

Rest in Power King of Cult Cinema! Roger Corman (1926-2024)

Image
So, I happened to log onto Twitter I mean "X" and saw a post from John Carpenter giving a brief eulogy of B movie filmmaker and King of Cult films, Roger Corman who have been one of the few influential figures who have pushed boundaries, challenged norms, and left an indelible mark on the industry. The visionary  director, producer, and prolific filmmaker whose impact on cinema cannot be overstated. Corman established himself with very low budgeted productions for Machine-Gun Kelly (1958), House of Usher (1960), The Pit and the Pendulum (1961).  X: The Man with the X-ray Eyes (1963) and plenty of films inspired by Edgar Allan Poe. In the 1950s and 60s, he directed and produced a series of genre-defying films that defied traditional conventions. From sci-fi and horror to exploitation and rebellion, it was Corman's films that challenged societal norms, when making bold statements about taboo topics and politics.
Some of his most notable productions include "The Little

Bop wants to be a One Percenter! (Review)

Written and Reviewed by Bop I love action movies. They are without a doubt, my favourite genre. The more fists and feet are flying, the better. There can never be enough of them unless they are utter crap, which also happens. You all know the names: Iko Uwais, Tony Jaa, Scott Adkins, Michael Jai White, Mark Dacascos, Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Marko Zaror, Joe Taslim, Donnie Yen, Jeeja Yanin, Veronica Ngo and of course Bruce Lee. However, there are also other people making great action movies like Jailbreak, BKO Bangkok Knockout, so I am always on the lookout for new talent. Tak Sakaguchi is such a talent. I stumbled onto his name by pure accident and read he was his own “wave” style of fighting and that he moves uniquely when kicking ass, busting lips and cracking skulls. And that brings me to Once Percenter aka known as One Percent Warrior. It seems Sonny Chiba's legacy may have some competition within Japan.  The premise of the movie is that Tak Sakaguchi plays an action movie star, w

"Mokkori, mokkori!" City Hunter returns in a live action Movie! (Review)

Written and Reviewed by Bop Some of us love anime. Some of us don’t. I appreciate the art from, but can’t say I love all anime. To me there is a lot of emo bullshit anime, that just doesn’t interest me. However, there are a few gems like Gatchaman , Cyber City Oedo, Remi Nobody’s Boy, Pinocchio, Treasure Island and the Infini-T series. City Hunter is another one of those gems. City Hunter is about a private eye who only wants to be hired by pretty women. He is bit of bi-polar character. When there are beautiful women in the neighbourhood he can’t control himself and becomes a big lecher. And that is what makes that Tv show funny. However, when shit hits the fan and he needs to get serious he gets serious. He is master of the gun and he can fight. What more do you need in a TV show? Jackie Chan was the first guy, who did a live-action City Hunter. Legend has it that he once did a poll in Japan asking the Japanese which anime character he should play and it turns out it was City Hunter.
