Reel Talk Podcast: The Kickoff!

Image
In this preamble episode recorded over a month ago, Gogo, Jan and Stalks discuss how much Marvel’s Age of Ultron as this connective tissue to the MCU,guess which Marvel film Gogo didn't really care for? Questionable casting for the upcoming G.I. Joe Snake Eyes movie the expectations from both the Mortal Kombat and Zac Snyder’s Justice League trailer.  Which director is overrated and how fucking hard is it to name your favorite Dc Movie?!?  Great actors of the 70s who now turned into provocative old curmudgeon. The problem with Toxicity in Nerd Culture. PLUS OUR MAIN FEATURE!  Second time around: What movies we once did not care for, during first viewing, but came away impressed after re-watching them.

Resident Evil Village Demos: My impressions so far, so good?

Image
As a longtime somewhat diehard fan of the venerable videogame series that  coined the genre "Survival Horror", I took it upon myself to play the recently released demos for Capcom's upcoming Resident Evil Village. In the latest installment of this series, Ethan's daughter Rose has been kidnapped by RE protagonist Chris Redfield, and its up to him to rescue his daughter "alone" as he heads off into a mysterious village within a European country. Here's some gameplay footage with some commentary.😎

Mortal Kombat (2021) is a "Flawed Victory"!

Image
I like so many others are fans of the Mortal Kombat videogame series since the 90’s thanks to its brutal gameplay, bizarre assortment of characters, worldbuilding blend of martial arts, mysticism and paying homage to the Kung Fu films of old especially Enter the Dragon. So, after two previous live action adaptations and a bunch of webisodes, (Mortal Kombat: Rebirth) here we are with a whole new reboot of the franchise. But does it live up to the videogame counterpart or is the film itself a “Fatality”? Well, “get over here” and read my brutally honest review but be warned, there are a few spoilers ahead! In 2021’s Mortal Kombat, the film directed by newcomer Simon McQuoid, starts off with a promising setup taking place back as far as 17th century Japan where Hanzo Hasashi a former assassin of the Shirai Ryu ninja clan, is living a peaceful life with his wife and children, that is until Bi-Han (Sub Zero for the uninitiated out there.) and his boys from the rival gang the Lin Kuei, does

Falcon and the Winter Soldier ep 6 ReCap (Spoiler Talk!)

Image
"Every time I pick this thing up, I know there are millions of people who are going to hate me for it,"  "The only power I have is the belief that we can do better." Okay, we have finally reached the series finale (?) of Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Although I have a few misgivings about episode 6 appropriately titled; "One World, One People" it was a satisfactory experience as far as everything coming 360 as far as the storyline and arcs are concerned. Let's get to it! This episode begins after the cliffhanger from last week with the GRC being under siege by Karli and her Flag Smashers. There's a familiar silhouette of a winged man "flying high in the sky, sailing through the air he's America's fighter.." 😉 And as predicted, Sam makes his dramatic entrance as the new Captain America! Um, "yay fan service!"Meanwhile, Bucky is at the scene aiding Sam and I was glad to see how the SWAT team acknowledged him as "Se

This-is-Dystopia! Soylent Green (1973) "It's what's for Dinner!"

Image
Welcome to another installment of "This-is-Dystopia " a series dedicated to my favorite Dystopian films of old that as with many science fiction films, foreshadowed what's happening in the world today! After the minor success from 1971's The Omega Man and prior to that, Beneath the Planet of the Apes , Charlton Heston once again, finds himself back into a nightmarish world of uncertainty! In the 1973 futuristic ecological thriller Soylent Green, New York City and perhaps the entire world, is heavily overpopulated. To complicate things further, Man's carbon footprint, depleted oceans and the Greenhouse effect has led to a severe impact the swelling population's food supply. To offset hunger imbalance and scarcity issues, the Soylent Corporation manufacture and distribute their self-titled high protein food that look like some green or yellow tinted graham crackers, presumably constituted from plankton cultivated in the seas marketed to the starving masses with

20 Years Later: Joey Ramone

Image
"We stripped it (Rock n Roll) back down to the bone and reassembled it, put the excitement and fun and energy and attitude and spirit and fun back into what was no longer there. And in doing so, turned the world around, totally revolutionized rock & roll, and went to England, and that’s when the whole British thing kicked off, and then the world changed completely. And everybody basically was inspired by us to some degree." -Joey Ramone during a 1990 Entertainment Weekly interview I guess good news travels fast. Well not fast enough because, I was waiting over three years for any word of a biopic about one of my favorite Punk Bands- The Ramones! Yeah, i'm not too crazy about Pete Davidson being cast as the band's lead vocalist front man and counterculture icon, Joey Ramone but at this point, beggars can't be choosers! Queen had Bohemian Rhapsody, Motley Crue dived into The Dirt and as for David Bowie..Stardust??? Ahem and now, it's The Ramones' turn!

Nobody (Review) Whenever there's trouble, you better not call Saul!

Occasionally, I would have the pleasure of discovering a sleeper film that for the most part, would have been easily overlooked due to lack of promotional materials like ads, trailers, or a bit of hyperbole. Fortunately for me, the Comedy action thriller Nobody, did not slip under my radar thanks to a few advertising spots on YouTube. Directed by David Leich who has an impressive resume thanks to John Wick, Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2 and Hobbs and Shaw, Nobody, is about your average suburban family man, Hutch Mansell, who lives a mundane life. His Wife has not made love with him in years, he has a semi estranged relationship with his son, while he must deal with assholes at work or those who live next door and cannot even take out the garbage in time for the Sanitation Truck pick up! Ergo, Hutch is deemed a nobody! That is until some burglars made a huge mistake when breaking into his house. This serves as the catalyst for Hutch going on a wild misadventure, after realizing that his dau
