The 300th!

Welcome to the 300th as in Poptic Nerve’s 300th published piece be it Podcasts, Reviews or outright opinion pieces and we are full of opinions! It’s been quite the journey but to any haters out there, here we are-still standing. “Never give up, never say die, walking tall with banners high-they sound the battle cry..” fuck you-FUCK YOU!

That said, here’s some Pop Topix for ya and hot off the presses with no so special News correspondent Ollie!

Oy Lads, Lards and Lassies! tis yo boi the angry “Irish” Cat Ollie here to celebrate the 300th post of PN or what I would refer to as “Talkbacking Pulp of Epic proportions with Supernaughty content” sans the drama, backstabbing, debauchery, and douchebags! Now this, is what freedom feels like!
So that aside, lets jump into a few exciting headlines that made this week’s cut of Pop Topix!

 Anarchy in the UKKK

Last week has been full of shites and giggles beginning with the fallout that occurred from Oprah’s candid interview with the sexy Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle, who is married to Prince Harry y’know, our Swastika armband wearing spoiled brat of the bullshit UK “Monarchy?”   It seems that Dirty Harry has changed his ways when marrying former actress of colour Megahn (Suits) however, all is not well with this fairy tale romance as the Duchess revealed during the interview, how a member of the Royal family, was concerned about her first child having a dark complexion but of course she refuses to say who mentioned this, so feel free to deduce who was the rascally racist that made this comment. Okay, I’m gonna come out and say it, Prince Charles!

Meanwhile, plenty of women  during a vigil for Sarah Everard who was kidnapped and murdered by a Police Officer in London, have been unjustly assaulted by the Police!

Now, the royals are looked upon as white supremacists more than ever, which shouldn’t be as to no surprise since the United Kingdom has a history of barbaric cruelty of colonization, occupying so many foreign lands be it Africa, Hong Kong, the Indies you fooking name it!

The whole Monarchy thing is dated and is this sense of being born into entitlement or some silver spoon like that draft dodger turned President Donald Trump. Yeah, I’m still goin there! Speaking of sore losers, here’s Piers Morgan!

UKKKaren
Sharon Osbourne of the “Talk” goes ballistic over standing by Piers Morgan!
Well it seems that Morgan’s controversy has opened new wounds when talk show host of “The Talk”  (a blatant rip-off of ABC’s The View) Sharon Osbourne opened her gaping hole that put her in hot water while defending Piers abrupt exit from “Good Morning Britain” (a blatant rip-off of Good Morning America. Notice a pattern here?)

To add insult to injury, former original cohost of “The Talk” Holly Robinson Peete (21 Jump Street) Holly Robinson Peete, is blowing the smoke on Sharon Osbourne’s past racist comments which lead to Peete who exiting the daytime talk show in 2011 after its first season. Peete claimed Osbourne, 68, had complained she was "too 'ghetto,'" alleging that it played a role in her departure.

"I'm old enough to remember when Sharon complained that I was too 'ghetto' for #theTalk...then I was gone," Peete, 56, tweeted. "I bring this up now bc I was mortified watching the disrespectful condescending tone she took w/her co-host who remained calm & respectful because...she HAD to. 🤦🏽‍♀‍ 🤷🏽‍♀‍ #fbf."
And hey, let’s not forget when her daughter Kelly, made this insensitive gaff about Hispanics

Ah, those Osbourne’s I tells ya. I never cared for their reality tv series on MTV, nor did I like Ozzy’s music with the noted exception of Iron Man and Crazy Train

And speaking of overrated, AVATAR seeks to reclaim its throne as the box office “King of the World”!

James Cameron’s opus Avatar has beaten Avengers: Endgame, when reclaiming the title of highest-grossing movie ever worldwide. The China reissue of the 2009 sci-fi film which resurged the 3D phenomenon had taken an estimated RMB 58M ($8.9M) on Saturday its re-release on Friday and surpasses what was a $7.82M gap between the two films prior to China’s reissue. Disney/Marvel’s Endgame previously garnered the top global crown from Avatar during July 2019. As it stands, Avatar global total is an estimated $2,798,579,794 versus Endgame‘s $2,797,501,328. I don’t get the hyperbole of this Movie, which was nowhere as influential as Cameron’s past films, Terminator, Aliens or even The Abyss! On the contrary, Avatar borrows so many ideas from other mediums in pop culture be it Ferngully, Dances with Wolves and especially Epic Comics’ Time spirits!!

meanwhile, Cameron is (still) working on that long-awaited sequel. Ho hum!

And in more Dweeb News:

Batgirl and Zarana…I meant "Zatana" series may arrive on HBO MAX!

At an AT&T's investor presentation, Warner Bros. mentioned a few DC Comics based projects arriving within the upcoming years. Aside from The Batman, Black Adam, Aquaman 2, which we are already familiar with—the most two notable titles were the Batgirl movie and a once rumored Zatnna project making its second live action appearance courtesy of HBO MAX! The infamous Josh Whedon was previously attached to the Batgirl project but could not come up with a good enough concept and stepped away. Enter Christina Hodson, the writer on both Bumblebee and Birds of Prey,  who was attached to the script since 2018.

Zatana was somewhat mentioned in a July 2020 report as a possible HBO Max project, but there is that speculation of the series getting the greenlight. A Batgirl Movie or TV series would be welcomed since Batwoman was a flop on so many levels and as for a Zatana series, sure a female semi equivalent to Marvel’s Doctor Strange is good for DC further promoting diversity in today’s sociopolitical climate without the need to pander. Looking at you, Thor Love and Thunder!

Oh wait, I’m not done yet!

Pepe LePew gets a “Pew-Pew”!

While China is successfully improving their infrastructure and paving the way for world domination, Americans are obsessed with frivolous issues like Looney Tunes character Pepe LePew being accused of promoting rape culture due to his assertive attempts to make the moves on Penelope. Anyways, it seems like our loveable skunk will not appear in the upcoming Space Jam 2 “The scene in question involves the animated skunk approaching a live-action character played by actress Greice Santos in a bar. She then pushes Pepé away when he starts kissing her arm, then she pours her drink on him and eventually backhands the persistent skunk, which sends his barstool spinning before it is stopped by the film’s star, LeBron James.”

Funny, I thought the reason for Penelope rejecting LePew was because he stunk as a Skunk. What could be deemed as offensive is the stereotype of Le French body odors, which was overlooked. And speaking of the French, in honor of International Women’s Day, there was a giant inflatable Clitoris erected (No pun intended) near the Eiffel Tower to promote Sexual Literacy???

Ok, that’s enough news from me and back to the guy who is a spitting image of the brotha from Netflix’s Brigenton, or at least, he wish he was!  Happy St. Patrick’s Day ya fookers!

Stalks: Give it up for Ollie, everybody! Now that he’s out of the way *Ahem* in honor of Poptic’s Nerve 300th post, I’m going to review one of my favorite movies that came out what, seven years ago? I’m talking about Captain America The Winter Soldier, now that the upcoming Disney plus series Falcon and The Winter Soldier will make its debut this week, why not go back in time when things were a bit simpler y’know, “less politics and more movies”?

Captain America: The Winter Soldier Review

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo

What started out as a questionable direction due to signing the Russo Brothers of You, Me and Dupree had resulted in one of the best superhero movies of all time! In 2014’s Captain America the Winter Soldier, Cap is back with his mighty shield and he’s going to need it more than ever when he becomes a fugitive running from SHIELD and running into his most dangerous foe- The Winter Soldier! Right off the bat this sequel has great tone and pacing beginning with  Steve Rogers literally running into Sam Wilson for the first time , then goes on this clandestine mission to liberate the hostages aboard a yacht called the Lemurian Star, during and after the mission, Steve as “Captain America Agent of SHIELD” has his doubts about the intelligence agency’s motives when it is revealed that the vessel serves as a beacon for a new initiative  called “Project Insight” consisting of three Hellicarriers powered by Stark’s repulsor engines and capable of targeting any individual with precision. Things take a turn for the worst when a hit is put on Col. Nick Fury and that’s where Steve encounters the mysterious assassin- his best friend James Buchanan Barnes aka “Bucky”!

Witn an intriguing premise, plenty of action-packed close quarter combat sequences, brilliant stuntwork, the introduction of the Falcon, Batroc,Crossbones, Agent 13 and of course, the Winter Soldier, this sequel is an exceptional conspiracy thriller underneath its guise of a Superhero film featuring Robert Redford (Three Days of the Condor) as Secretary of Internal Security, Alexander Pierce who is one of the standouts!

There are surreal moments whether its Steve visiting with his long-lost love, Peggy Carter who is aged and suffering from Alzheimer’s disease or Col Nick Fury is reacting towards a gazing Police Officer as a “Driving while Black” meta and not to mention the parallels between Hydra infiltrating SHIELD and the KKK infiltrating  the Police. Natasha Romanoff really got to shine throughout the sequel as Steve’s confidant who keeps insisting on him finding that special someone. Also, she kicks plenty of ass, once again proving a vital asset to the Avengers. At its core, I would label this as an Avengers 1.0 film when you include Cap, Falcon, Black Widow and Nick Fury saving the world without the need of a flying armored suit nor a Hammer wielding God of Thunder. Cap’s disillusionment with SHIELD is a sign of further development of his character and as a foreshadowing easter egg, there is that 40s Big band music was the same tune that was heard when Steve reunites with Peggy during the final moments of Avengers endgame.

I can see why its rated as one of the very best MCU films if not the best MCU film ever!

Yeah a 300th post is not that big of a milestone after 3 years of PN inception, but we’re still here!
Special thanks to all the contributors and colleagues past and present. Big shoutout to my uncompromising bro, Bop who was there from the beginning even during the days of Talkbacker!
